We Can Help

I closed Chrome and now it won't reopen. Only ending the task via Task Manager works!

If you have closed all windows for Google Chrome on a Windows Machine and find that you cannot reopen the browser, then it is likely caused by a corrupted or incorrect file. Please try the following.

  1. Use CTRL+ALT+DELETE to access Task Manager.
  2. Find all processes related to Google Chrome.
  3. Select each one and click 'End Task.'

Now uninstall Chrome manually. Note this will delete all cookies and cache.

  1. Open the Run program (you can search for this program using the Start menu)
  2. Type in: %AppData%
  3. Click Run. This will open up your AppData Folder
  4. Open the folder called 'Local'
  5. Delete the folder called 'Google'
  6. Open the Run program again
  7. Type in: C:\
  8. Click Run: This will open your C Drive folder
  9. Open the folder called 'Program Files (x86)
  10. Delete the folder called 'Google'

Reinstall Chrome by following the steps provided here https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en.

When signing into Chrome, do NOT choose 'Sync everything'. Choose 'choose what to sync' instead. Uncheck the following:

  • Extensions
  • Settings
  • Autofill
  • History
  • Passwords
  • Open Tabs

Then click 'OK.'
