Why can't I push the latest version of LastPass for IE for all my employee's machines that have multiple user profiles?

The installer https://lastpass.com/download/cdn/lastpass_x64.exe is only able to modify files and registry entries for the logged in user. So for other users on a machine, or for newly created users, we create a start up shortcut and set it to run for all users.

Once it has run once for the user, we set a registry entry so that it doesn't continually re-run every time users log in. The startup shortcut runs a command to extract the latest version of LastPass required files to the user's AppData directory.

If this is not occurring, either the startup shortcut is not running, or it has already run but failed for some reason (eg: IE might have been running so it couldn't replace required files).

To troubleshoot, try logging in as other user (not the primary user who installed LastPass), open up a command prompt (NOT an Administrative command prompt) and then run (only once) the following commands:

  • For Internet Explorer: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\lpuninstall.exe" -pf -name=LastPass -ffuuid support@lastpass.com
  • For Firefox: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\lpuninstall.exe" -qf -name=LastPass -ffuuid support@lastpass.com
