Why am I seeing "LastPass doesn't recognize this device or you are at a new location. Please check your email to grant access to your new device or location." ?

Why am I being asked to verify on login?

As one of our security measures since the breach of LastPass, we require users to verify via email (LastPass email address) when logging on new computers/mobile devices or new IP addresses (check your IP here with our geolocation provider - https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-demo). Be sure to check your Security email address if you have one set. 

Note: we only go back 30 days for IP verification. If you get prompted to verify your IP address that has been used before the breach, let us know the IP address so we can whitelist it for you.

Update: we have made a change in our verification process. If you try to log in from a new device (device A) and get prompted to verify your location via email. When you try to verify it on another device (device B) that has a different external IP address from device A, we will now whitelist both IP addresses on your devices.


I checked my email but I didn't receive an email from LastPass. Where is it?

First, if you have a Security Email address set, please check there for the email.  Second, the email could be getting sent to spam or is blocked by email filter. Please follow the steps here https://lastpass.com/support.php?cmd=showfaq&id=6386 to ensure you can receive the email.


What if I don't have access to my email?

If you have saved your email password in LastPass and cannot log into your email, you should attempt to login offline to get your offline cached data.

Otherwise, you will need to recover your email via your email provider first, then verify. 


What if the email no longer exists?

Please open a support ticket at the bottom of this page and let us know that the email no longer exists. Once you get back into your account, be sure to change your email address.


Once verified, how can I avoid the need to verify my account in the future?

You can disable the verification requirement completely by logging on to https://lastpass.com/ > LastPass Vault > Account Settings > Show Advanced Settings > check "Disable Email Verification". If you do this, it is highly recommended that you enable Multifactor Authentication.
