Using ADFS

As an access control  authorization model,  Active Directory Federation Services  (ADFS) is a  Single Sign-On  (SSO) solution that was created by  Microsoft. It is a component of  Windows Server operating systems  and offers authenticated access to  web applications  that cannot use Integrated Windows Authentication (IWA) through Active Directory (AD).

To manage authentication and grant access,  ADFS  uses a Federated Trust, which connects it and the target application. Federated Trust is designed to enable users to access multiple applications in a network with a single set of credentials. A  federation server login builds a direct relationship between an application and a user directory. When a user logs in to the directory, the integration between the directory and the application allows the user to access both with only the corporate credentials.

With federated identity  management, there is no need for users to authenticate their identity directly on each application.

The Value of Using ADFS and LastPass

When your IT solutions work together, everything works better. An integrated security infrastructure offers a single source of truth to manage identity and access management across your organization.

By adding LastPass to your ADFS environment, your organization can simplify identity and access management across your business while increasing security.

LastPass complements an existing ADFS single sign-on (SSO) solution by offering industry-leading password management. Password management provides coverage for all website and applications that are non-SSO compatible or that are outside IT’s knowledge. By combining LastPass and ADFS, you can provide secure access to all applications that your employees require to do their jobs, regardless if they are compatible with single sign-on or known to IT.

Organizational Benefits of  ADFS  and LastPass

Increased Productivity

By federating  Microsoft  Active Directory with LastPass Enterprise, your team streamlines the log-in process with only one password to remember. No more wasting time trying to figure out what password to use.

Enhanced Security

LastPass is designed to keep sensitive data safe with a zero-knowledge approach. Biometric data and encryption keys never leave the user’s device, so personal information remains secure and private. Integrate existing identity providers for a unified view of your users to bolster security without adding friction. With greater security, you can set organizational boundaries to ensure no data leaves the organization when an employee does.

Reduced Administrative Work

LastPass lets you automatically sync users with your Microsoft Active Directory to eliminate manual onboarding for all web applications. This means less manual administrative work when an employee joins or leaves, so your team can focus on higher priority tasks.

High Adoption Rate

Simplify how you configure access management and authentication of a user's identity. With ADFS deployment you can alleviate login frustrations to realize higher LastPass adoption rates.

Easy Access

Connect employees to their work through LastPass’ app catalog of more than 1,200 SSO integrations, web applications, Microsoft programs like Azure, and cloud-based solutions.
