Leader in Password Management
Based on 1,599+ reviews“I like that LastPass is easy to use and intuitive. It integrates well with all websites and allows me to keep secure encryption for all my personal and work-related accounts. It allows me to organize folders, share with others, and only memorizing one master password for all of those while keeping encryption secure is a relief.”
Kenny Kolijn
Independant business coach“I use LastPass both corporately and personally. It allows me to securely store and share passwords with my family and co-workers in separate environments and happily generates random secure passwords for me, which prevents me from re-using the same one.”
Erik Eckert
System administrator, MPE Engineering Ltd.“I have been with LastPass for about two years now and it's one of those apps that you wonder why it took so long to start using. The absolute frustration of trying to keep track of passwords manually was so stressful. LastPass takes the stress away. It is extremely easy to use in my opinion, and has some great security features.”

Frequently asked questions
What is the best password manager for family sharing?
Dashlane, Bitwarden, 1Password, NordPass, and LastPass have consistently made industry lists for most secure password managers. Several of these are some of the best free password managers in the world.
However, LastPass offers unique advantages you’ll appreciate for your family. Our zero-knowledge framework rests on three pillars: privacy, security, and compliance. Our privacy program aligns with the world’s top data privacy frameworks. In addition, we submit to routine security audits by world-class security organizations and comply with industry-tested compliance standards.
Can multiple people use the same password manager?
Yes, everyone in a LastPass Families account has their own personal password manager and vault that is connected to the rest of the family.
Premium and Families plans allow you to access your passwords from anywhere, protect your credentials with preventative dark web monitoring, protect your account with advanced multi-factor authentication, and ensure continued access with emergency access.
How do you share passwords with family members?
You can share passwords one at a time or you can share them in folders. These could be folders for banking information to share with your spouse, streaming passwords to share with your household, or utilities passwords to share with roommates.
You can create new folders easily by selecting “All Items” in the left navigation bar. Next, click on the + sign in your LastPass vault and select “Add New Folder.” Be sure to name your folder and click “Save” when finished. That’s it!
With LastPass Families, you can create unlimited shared folders between family members. Be sure to install the LastPass browser extension for any browser you use, such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, Brave, or Safari. You can also install the LastPass app on macOS desktops, Android phones, and iOS mobile devices.
What devices can I use LastPass Families on?
LastPass Families can be used in browsers like Opera, Edge, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on desktops and mobile devices. You can also install the LastPass app for Android, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
Finally, LastPass can be installed on unlimited devices, so you never have to worry about compromised passwords ever again.
Which password manager is safest for families with kids?
Password managers and cybersecurity go together, especially when it comes to keeping our children safe. As parents, you may worry that cloud storage could put your children’s online accounts at risk. However, our zero-knowledge security framework protects your vaults by never storing them in plaintext form.
With this security architecture, and additional features like dark web monitoring, password strength monitoring, and more, you can ensure your entire family is practicing safe cybersecurity habits to protect their digital lives.
How to create a LastPass Families account and invite family members?
To invite family members to your Families account, do the following:
- In your LastPass vault, click “Manage Family” in the left navigation bar.
- Click “Add Family Member” and enter their name and email address.
- Choose to add them either as a member or family manager.
- Finally, click “Invite.” Your family member will receive an email that asks them to activate their account.
How does a family password manager secure sharing?
Rather than sharing passwords via sticky notes, digital spreadsheets, or text messages, LastPass allows Families users to share passwords from their password vaults to other users’ vaults. By remaining in LastPass, shared passwords and sensitive information remain encrypted.
Users sharing passwords can also set limitations to enhance their security. For instance, you can make it so shared passwords can be used but are never visible in their plaintext format. Also, you can ensure passwords cannot be shared beyond the user who received them. Together, this allows approved users to log in where needed without ever being able to share the passwords any further.
