Frequently asked questions

How to turn on LastPass autofill for Chrome extension?

  • Open your Chrome web browser and sign in to your Google account
  • Download the LastPass extension for Chrome from the Google Play store.
  • Go to Chrome Settings, click on Passwords and Autofill, then click on the Google Password Manager. Under Settings, switch the toggle off so Chrome does not offer to save your passwords.
  • Switch the second toggle off for “Auto Sign-In” so the LastPass extension takes over autofill for Google.

Why should I consider a standalone password manager instead of the built-in Chrome password manager?

While Chrome’s built-in password manager is convenient, it has it’s shortcomings: particularly, it lacks the sophisticated security settings of a standalone password manager like LastPass.

Moreover, LastPass gives users the ability to securely share passwords with fellow users and access your passwords from anywhere. With LastPass, you’re not limited to accessing your passwords on Chrome or Android and Google devices; you can access your passwords on any device types, web browser, and operating system – Apple, MacOS, iOS, Safari, Edge, Firefox, etc.

Where are my saved passwords if I’m using an Android device?

If you’re using an Android device and autosaving passwords prior to downloading and using LastPass, they’re stored in your Google Password Manager.

To export your passwords from the Google Password Manager and import them to LastPass:

On web browser: Click on the top-right drop-down menu in Chrome, hover over “Passwords and Autofill”, and click on” Google Password Manager”. Once in your password manager, click on “Settings” and choose to |export your passwords as a CVS file. Import the file to your LastPass vault and your ready to start autofilling your passwords using LastPass.

On the mobile app browser: Click on the top-right drop-down menu in Chrome, click on “Settings,” and click on “Google Password Manager.” Once here, click on the “Settings” button at the bottom of screen and choose to export passwords. Once exported, you can go to LastPass and import this file to transfer your passwords.

How do I generate a new password in Chrome?

With LastPass, it’s as simple as clicking on the new password form field when creating an account. A pop-up from LastPass will appear above the form field, which will include our built-in password generator.

You can set specific parameters you’d like your new password to meet, like length and whether it should include numbers and special characters. Click on the generated password and it will autofill into the form field for you. When you create your account, your new credentials will be saved to LastPass.
